A very elementary version of a skin-contact white. Deep golden yellow in the glass. Some oxidized apple on the nose complemented by pleasant florals. Palate is rich and textural, wtih tons of herbaceousness hitting at first, but the tropical fruit from the Semillon rounds this out nicely. A pretty wine, something to start your orange wine journey with.

Pronounced perfume shows green herb, lemon and passionfruit. The palate is riotous and with great texture, piercing, cool and refreshing. More of the passionfruit and yet lime to taste, some light chalkiness and a faint suggestion of cashew. Really delicious, moreish thing with some quiet complexity in tow.

Quiet and textural style here. Pear, redcurrant, spice, strawberry and a little fennel and earthiness. Chalk dust, saline and strewn with dried herbs and orange peel, a blood orange tang, and a savoury finish of good length. Excellent.

Truly unique and not expected AT ALL from Viognier. A definite step up in the orange wine game. Cloudy in the glass. Has a rich nose of funky apricot; definitely feels very "natural". Ginger, lemongrass, some kumquat. Zippy palate with a blast of hops. Really rich texture and serious body. Mind-blowingly unique wine that will impress at every dinner table.

Durif is such a show-stopper at tastings. You can't put your finger on it, but it tastes damn good. Every. Single. Time. In the States it's known as Petite Sirah, the word "Petite" indicating the size of the berries that make this grape so distinct. But how did it end up in Australia? Durif was first planted in Australia in the Rutherglen region by pioneering Victorian viticulturalist Francois de Castella in 1908. It suits warmer and drier climates, so is a natural fit for a number of regions, including Kalleske's Barossa Valley.

Pale orange hazy in the glass. Nose of Haribo melon, jasmine, mango skin and green fruit. Slight oxidation that certainty contributes to the experience by pushing a bit more brightness in there. Tasty madness in a glass.

Beautifully formed and frisky Pinot Gris that speaks fluently of refreshment factor and quiet complexity. Piercing acidity, fine, powdery texture, grapefruit and passionfruit tang at large! Complex style, compelling drinking, pretty straight up, but no hair out of place. Big like.

Very dark purple ruby, with a vivid pink rim. The aromas seem to leap from the glass, offering up a fragrant spray of sweet berry fruit - noticeably grapey in character, but there is also some ripe blueberry, too. Quite elegant and smooth on the palate, and showing no signs of the alcohol level. Fine structure, with very good acidity, and a massive dose of deep berry fruit. No need to decant, just drink it straight from the bottle.

Pinot(esque) Noir

Blind Corner Rouge 2018

$55.00

Wow, the nose on this! Red & green peppers, some jalapeno juice, blackcurrant, paprika, ripe ripe plum. Bellissimo! Very simple though, easy-drinking is the name of the game here. The palate is marked with smooth tannins, moderate acidity, goes down like a charm. Glou glou.

The Commune rosé came from the difficulties of 2020 outside of the vineyard. This Nebbiolo was picked in the first week of April and crushed as whole bunches underfoot and left on-skins for two days. The wine was fermented in threes puncheons and aged on full lees for eleven months. A bright intense wine with an explosion of red fruits of cherries, cranberries, and raspberry. Its strength is in its varietal complexity of acidity and tannin.

Pale lemon in the glass. Powerful nose right off the bat - loads of melon, tropical fruit, baked apple and brioche. Medium, almost going to full body, lots of texture and concentration. Approachable now, but this definitely has some nice life ahead of it.

Pale lemon green in glass. Showing beautiful youth on the nose with aromas of grass, elderflower, lime, unripe pear and a bit of crushed gravel. Super juicy in the mouth, with the limey character prevailing throughout and the reasonably high acidity really highlighting the fruit notes. Great depth of flavors and a flawless balance. Finish goes to the herbaceous tone and lasts for a few minutes. Potential? This could easily go strong for 6-7 more years, maybe ten.

Chablis-esque. Lemon gold in the glass. Rich complexity immediately detected on the nose - aromas of lime juice, lemon pie, rock melon, toast and whiffs of reduction (gunpowder) that blow off quickly. A bloody brilliant old-school Aussie white. Rich with fruit, but super lean and unbelievably fresh for its age. This is why you need to age Vat 1: it can be so low-key, restrained, austere and even underwhelming in its youth, but after more than 10 years in a cellar it starts to open up, becoming more expressive and complex, and softening up - yet retaining its firm acidic backbone. An outstanding display.

Cullen Diana Madeline 2010

$270.00

Deep ruby in the glass. Still quite shy on the nose showing notes of black fruit, capsicum and cedar. Just starting to bloom in the mouth with all its elements amplified and ready to carry this wine into decades to come. Titanic structure, complexity, depth. Pure class.
