Nikau ‘Tolone’ Riesling 2019

$148.00

Light golden in the glass. Ripe, almost sweet aromatics of peach, nectarine, ripe pear and honey. The acidity here is through the roof, making your jaw clench with every sip. Layers of fruit, minerality and salinity. Something that really stands out in the selection for this year. Easily approachable now, but has great potential ahead as well. Kudos!

Domaine Simha ‘Paysan’ Pet Nat 2020 (500ml)

$68.00

A very fun, characterful and positively challenging pet-nat with tremendous character and playfulness. Most likely this kind of wine isn't everyone's cup of tea, but is truly a raw expression of nature. Not funky or "natty" in any way, but rather very clean, precise and finely crafted. It is definitely ready to drink now, but it will be interesting to see how this will develop over the next couple of years.

The Riesling grapes for this cuvée comes from Mount Alexander in Harcourt Central Victoria - two vineyards one north side and one south side both grown on decomposing granite soils. Schisty, sharp but delicate. Fine and effortlessly refreshing with mineral notes.

So Fresh, So Clean

Domaine Simha ‘Raya’ Sauvignon Blanc 2019

$89.00

A very eccentric, atypical and slightly oxidative, yet very drinkable, complex and enjoyable Sauvignon Blanc coming from Simha. There is very little typical varietal character here and the style is more in the 'natty' white wine camp, with somewhat dominant phenolic notes, some terracotta tones of amphorae and oxidative complexity. However, if you don't mind that, this is a lovely little drop - the relatively light body of the wine and incisive acidity make it a great food wine.

So Fresh, So Clean

Domaine Simha ‘Lotus’ Riesling 2019

$99.00

This Riesling is ripe and fresh with a fleshy body and bright flavors of freshly picked red apples, some cantaloupe, a little bit of tart lemony citrus fruits, light sweeter notes of ripe citrus fruits and a hint of honeyed sweetness. Quite high acidity that lends nice sense of balance and poise to the wine. Mouth-watering finish. Definitely one for the books.

Silverstream Riesling 2020

$61.00

Pale lemon-green in the glass. Vibrant and fun on the palate, offering great acidity and 4-5 g/L of residual sugar, just right. Citrus domination with a bit of green apple and melon. Bit of petrol due to bottle aging. Medium finish. An everyday Riesling with a very clean fruit character and good balance. Great for drinking with fish or light cheeses.

Rieslingfreak ‘No.55’ Clare Valley Growers Off-Dry Riesling 2022

$48.00

Rieslingfreak No.55 is an off-dry expression of the finely balanced compatibility between the richness and generosity of the fruit from the family vineyard in White Hutt, and the lean, mineral-driven elegance of the fruit from Polish Hill River. The natural sweetness of this off-dry style adds an unctuous richness to the mid-palate, while the driving natural acidity imparts a crisp, clean finish. The wine shows great fruit, texture and balance. Vibrant and intensely perfumed, with apple blossom, nectarine, freshly-sliced grapefruit, and lemon…

Rieslingfreak ‘No.33’ Clare Valley Growers Riesling 2022

$50.00

Orange, limes, lemons providing a citrus line in the glass, with green apple and pear also dominating. The intensity of a fresh fruit salad. Generous and refreshing fruit driven style with a soft, velvety palate of exceptional length. It has classic flavors of ripe lemon and lime and some tropical fruit notes. It drinks well young, but will also reward with cellaring. A wine to enjoy with or without food.

So Fresh, So Clean

Rieslingfreak ‘No.8’ Riesling 2022

$48.00

Stunning nose of green apple, passionfruit and ripe lemon. High, razor-sharp acid highlights the fruit gorgeously and is backed up by just the right amount of residual sugar. Mind you, the sweetness is not here to overwork the wine. Its role is just to make it juicier and more concentrated. Even though it's highly approachable now, this will just keep on giving and developing. Great job by John Hughes, putting a seal on our favourite Riesling outside of Europe.

The McIntyre Chardonnay is more savoury and restrained on opening, with cheese, cashew nuts, sandalwood and citrus rind aromatics opening slowly.  On the palate, the wine has similar savoury notes, with very tightly wound power and intensity.  This wine combines elegance and power, restraint and complexity – it is an intriguing wine that needs time, and food more than the Robinson and will very much reward patience – in the cellar or in the glass.

Amato Vino ‘Mantra’ Chardonnay 2022

Really good Chardonnay, even when drunk slightly warm (happens sometimes, we have to admit it). Some solid complexity coming through with ripe tropical & stone fruit followed by barrel fermented tones of brioche, vanilla and butter. Zippy acidity highlighting the fruit, preventing it from being overripe & heavy. Big alcohol as well, but balanced. Long finish.
