Rieslingfreak No.2 is a dry Riesling, showcasing many of the refinements typical of the Polish Hill River. The limestone and shale rock soil profile are reflected in the wine with mineral and slate notes, green apple flavours, and underlying green citrus and lilac characters, predominantly lemons and grapefruit. Wines from this vineyard can be consumed upon release, or cellared for many years.
John Hughes is a man on a single-varietal mission – to perfect the craft of Riesling through 9 different expressions of it. When you think about it profoundly, this is THE Riesling to seek out. No way a guy can get it wrong 9 times in 11 consecutive vintages. The two Eden Valley vineyards for No.4 are planted on shallow sandy loam + clay and are situated up to 500m above sea level. They give some of the most gorgeous expressions of Riesling we’ve ever come upon, not just in Australia, but in life.
