Grape(s): Merlot
Drinkability: Impress
Medium red colour with great depth. Plum fruits dominate aromas, and are backed by typical Merlot creaminess and subtle French oak characters. Lovely mid weighted palate with great balance of plum fruits and tight structure. Fine tannins, cedary French oak and balanced acidity give the wine length and drive and a long elegant finish.
This small, family-run vineyard was founded in 1999 by Alex and Janet Taylor. Poacher’s Ridge is nestled amongst the undulating hills of the Great Southern, on the western outskirts of the small townsite of Narrikup. Hand-tend their 20 acres of land, cultivating grapes which best reflect the terroir and the style of wines which they love to drink: cool-climate, medium-bodied varietals, with a specific focus on Riesling, Marsanne, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
