The label is fun, the wine is delicious. It’s the stuff you keep a 6-pack of in your fridge, in the scarcely populated vegetable drawer. Inky and dark, brooding scents – bergamot tea, prunes, raspberry, dark cherry pie. Sloshes into the palate nicely, dark plummy fruit, very earthy-savoury spice characters, a bit of mixed, wet herb, mushroom and sweet earthiness finishing with just a brush of tannin. Just flat out good wine.
Margaret River’s coolest crew is finally in Singapore! LS Merchants was formed by New Zealander Dylan Arvidson who started his career in Juniper Estate, but quickly realised that Chardonnay & Cabernet are not varieties he wants to put his main focus on. He ripped the textbook, threw it out the window and started producing wines from obscure varieties such as Vermentino, Petit Verdot, Mataro…There are still some delicious classics in the range, but this winery stands out for much, much more.
