Nic Peterkin’s 100% Chenin Blanc from biodynamic vineyards planted in Margaret River. Deep golden in the glass. Intense, but very pleasing aromas of yellow apple, melon and peach. Layers upon layers of complexity and it’s still so young. Starts of juicy with laser-like precision and balance then continues to a smooth, slightly waxy texture. The varietal expression is on point.
LAS Vino (Luck, Art, Science) was created in 2013 by Nic Peterkin, son of Mike Peterkin who planted Pierro’s golden vineyards in 1980. Nic spent his summer holidays working with dad in the vineyards and also did a vintage in Portugal, but his winery wasn’t established as a result of that. Six years of studying biochemistry and travelling around the world got in the way. When he finally returned to Margaret River, he took the unconventional route, producing wild-ferment Chardonnay, a red blend of Portuguese grapes, a whole-bunch Grenache and a biodynamic Cabernet. This was a step up in WA’s winemaking at the time and blasted him up among the greats.
