This is totally different from the classic South Australian style of Shiraz/Syrah. Made to mirror the cool sites of the Rhone Valley, this Syrah is marked by wonderful spice and black pepper together with fresh dark plum and a hint of blackberry. Alcohol holds well, complementing the acidity and brush of tannins that are present. Pure expression of the grape, lovely drink.
Small batch winery Dormilona is run by Jo and husband Jimmy. The name Dormilona means ‘lazy bones’ in Spanish and reflects their laidback approach to winemaking and her nickname during her winemaking years in Spain. She makes wine to express the vintage, the conditions, the site, the soils and best of all, uses very little intervention.
