As a whole this is an enjoyable, heavy-set all-rounder with decent balance and supple, straightforward fruit. Concentrated, quite opaque black-red color with a thinner, slightly purple rim. Plummy dark fruit and a surprisingly sophisticated streak game meat. The tannins are quite soft and mellow, giving the wine quite chewy texture and round, easily approachable character. The finish is supple and long with ripe and sweet flavors of cherry, dark fruit and quite pronounced vanilla.
Studying in Bordeaux and California, Sue Bell concentrates all her efforts on small parcels of fruit and produces wine in Tasmania, Coonawarra, Heathcote and Wrattonbully. With her academic background focused on agriculture, even though she buys all her fruit, she still has the advantage of advising her growers on how to improve production. Naturally, this Shiraz was planted on a perfect location, greatly benefiting from the rich terra rossa soils, formed through the transformation of limestone over thousands of years.
