Fruits and florals play around on the nose, very aromatic and enjoyable stuff. Dry with a beautifully integrated acidity, just enough to highlight the bright fruit. Long finish. Tomfoolery ‘Young Blood’ Shiraz 2019

$39.00

Inspired by the new wave 'Vino Joven' wines of the old world, Young Blood Shiraz is released as a cheeky youngster with just a brief barrel maturation to showcase structure and varietal character, while retaining freshness and finesse. The fruit is open fermented utilising native yeasts, with 30% whole bunch in the mix. After 7 days maceration post-ferment, the wine is gently basket pressed and racked to stainless vats (50%) and old French oak hogsheads (50%) for 6 months maturation. Young Blood Shiraz is pure, uncomplicated enjoyment.

Light salmon pink in the glass. Pleasant, sort of sweet aromatics - cranberry, candied cherry, raspberry. Very fruit-driven on the palate as well. Simple, refreshing, light. Alcohol is much lighter compared to the 2019 vintage, giving way to a lot more acidity. Great wine, works well at the price.

Some compare it to Pinot Noir, others to Nebbiolo, but Sicily’s noble red comfortably stands alone as one of the most unique grapes planted in the country. Amato Vino Rosso 2020

$49.00

Always good, the Primitivo here shining full on. Lots of fruit-forward character accompanied by a bit of spice in the background. The palate is showing high acid with a brush of ripe tannins. Approachable now, but will go strong for 2-3 more years if you decide to lay it down in your cellar. You have to love how Amato makes these young wines drinkable straight off the bat, something that’s hard to find with old school winemakers nowadays.

Domaine Simha ‘Nature’ Sauvignon Blanc 2019

$59.00

Sauvignon Blanc is one of the dominant grape varieties in Tasmania, giving amazingly energetic wines. The nose on this is all exotic, complemented by some dill and sea salt. Lightning strikes on the palate! You can taste the vitality, but it's so well blended with the fruit that you forget it's there. Until you come to your next sip (or bottle).

Domaine Simha ‘Paysan’ Pet Nat 2020 (500ml)

$59.00

A very fun, characterful and positively challenging pet-nat with tremendous character and playfulness. Most likely this kind of wine isn't everyone's cup of tea, but is truly a raw expression of nature. Not funky or "natty" in any way, but rather very clean, precise and finely crafted. It is definitely ready to drink now, but it will be interesting to see how this will develop over the next couple of years.

Domaine Simha ‘Raya’ Sauvignon Blanc 2019

$89.00

A very eccentric, atypical and slightly oxidative, yet very drinkable, complex and enjoyable Sauvignon Blanc coming from Simha. There is very little typical varietal character here and the style is more in the 'natty' white wine camp, with somewhat dominant phenolic notes, some terracotta tones of amphorae and oxidative complexity. However, if you don't mind that, this is a lovely little drop - the relatively light body of the wine and incisive acidity make it a great food wine.

Domaine Simha Fleur Sauvage 2019

$69.00

A remarkably well-made, pure and nuanced orange wine that is very savory and simply dead-serious in style. Definitely a crowd-pleaser note to the nose, but offers so much precision on the palate. Chardonnay seems to lend this wine a kind of richness and body while Riesling comes in with the zippiness. The quality here is obviously top-notch and while there's certain rustic roughness around the edges, the wine is wonderfully pure and precise from the beginning to the end, not showing any excessive funk or such.

Domaine Simha ‘Lotus’ Riesling 2019

$89.00

This Riesling is ripe and fresh with a fleshy body and bright flavors of freshly picked red apples, some cantaloupe, a little bit of tart lemony citrus fruits, light sweeter notes of ripe citrus fruits and a hint of honeyed sweetness. Quite high acidity that lends nice sense of balance and poise to the wine. Mouth-watering finish. Definitely one for the books.

We could drink this out of a faucet! Pale lemon-green in the glass. Wonderful aromas of green apple juice, chamomile, peach and some wet stones. Body is light, but bursting with acid and fruit. Terrific wine that will age for 3-5 years.

Silverstream Riesling 2019

$49.00

Pale lemon-green in the glass. Vibrant and fun on the palate, offering great acidity and 4-5 g/L of residual sugar, just right. Citrus domination with a bit of green apple and melon. Bit of petrol due to bottle aging. Medium finish. An everyday Riesling with a very clean fruit character and good balance. Great for drinking with fish or light cheeses.

Tomfoolery ‘Fox Whistle’ Pinot Gris 2021

$39.00

A nice, refreshing and fruity Pinot Gris that lies somewhere between the refreshing yet simple (and often tasteless) Italian Pinot Grigio and the more fruitier and rounder style of German Grauburgunder. This wine is a bit lighter and somewhat higher in acidity than your average Pinot Gris, but it also has much more fruit and depth than your run-of-the-mill Pinot Grigio. Overall this is quite reliable and tasty effort, making it a good everyday wine for a wide variety of food. Perhaps best served with white meats, grilled fish or heavier salads.

A simply stunning Chardonnay influenced by white Burgundy. Textbook example of how good Geelong Chardonnay ages. There are no signs of decline whatsoever, but instead the wine has reached its apogee of stunning richness, complexity and opulence. It feels relatively big and quite round, yet it doesn't come across as heavy nor flabby because of its balanced acidity and bright, almost trebly minerality, balancing the weight and richness wonderfully. So very lovely. Tremendous value at this price.

This gin complements the rough seas, celebrating our juniper-based spirit's naval heritage. A nose of salty ocean breeze gives way to notes of native lime interplayed by seagrass. A combination of juniper distilled through maceration and vapour infusion creates a melody of depth and mouthfeel. Sweetness and elevated texture are provided by macadamia and vanilla. $259.00

Very dark purple ruby, with a vivid pink rim. The aromas seem to leap from the glass, offering up a fragrant spray of sweet berry fruit - noticeably grapey in character, but there is also some ripe blueberry, too. Quite elegant and smooth on the palate, and showing no signs of the alcohol level. Fine structure, with very good acidity, and a massive dose of deep berry fruit. No need to decant, just drink it straight from the bottle.
