Always good, the Primitivo here shining full on. Lots of fruit-forward character accompanied by a bit of spice in the background. The palate is showing high acid with a brush of ripe tannins. Approachable now, but will go strong for 2-3 more years if you decide to lay it down in your cellar. You have to love how Amato makes these young wines drinkable straight off the bat, something that’s hard to find with old school winemakers nowadays.

Juicy on the palate, riper red berry fruit characters but again the herbs, spice, gamey-savouriness, and amongst all that a weave of graphite-tinged, lacy tannin. The McIntyre Chardonnay is more savoury and restrained on opening, with cheese, cashew nuts, sandalwood and citrus rind aromatics opening slowly.  On the palate, the wine has similar savoury notes, with very tightly wound power and intensity.  This wine combines elegance and power, restraint and complexity – it is an intriguing wine that needs time, and food more than the Robinson and will very much reward patience – in the cellar or in the glass.

Stunning nose of green apple, passionfruit and ripe lemon. High, razor-sharp acid highlights the fruit gorgeously and is backed up by just the right amount of residual sugar. Mind you, the sweetness is not here to overwork the wine. Its role is just to make it juicier and more concentrated. Even though it's highly approachable now, this will just keep on giving and developing. Great job by John Hughes, putting a seal on our favourite Riesling outside of Europe.

Remarkably good, juicy nose of classic SA cherry and vanilla with a little medicinal element too. Some Rioja elements in there as well - bit of dusty leather and baking spices. Fine palate of dark fruit with good balance and a satisfying finish. Excellent value.
