The nose on this one runs a deep, ripe cherry, with the trademark smokiness of peat and compost from wild ferments. Generous with the fruit on the palate - maraschino cherry, raspberry and rhubarb. Very reminiscent of a Loire Cab Franc or Villages Bourgogne. Just a brush of tannins complemented by some fantastic acidity. This is pure, natural wine, designed for easy enjoyment.

Tasting this fresh little drop brings a smooth, sunny wine to the palate. Fruity, mineralific and dry, the texture of the fruit integrated perfectly into its light, refreshing body. The zing of slight fizz offset a direct attack of peach and pear, livening and complexing the mouthfeel. Cool and bright, a bit of welcome bitter briar completes the finish.

So Fresh, So Clean

Lucy Margaux Vino Bianco 2021

$64.00

Pale hazy in the glass. Nice momentary VA on initial nose, quickly clearing out to clean citrus, white plum, peach and jasmine. In the mouth: unmistakably 'natty' with a shock of acid driving the bright fruit flavors to oblivion. Some hints of minerality on the finish as well. A taut, fun wine ideal for Sunday's visit to the beach.

Slightly hazy, golden in the glass. Nose is marked by good, solid complexity in the form of heady florals, melon, pineapple, peach, guava, green apple, vanilla and a hint of minerality. Superb balance on the palate with a bracing acidity and medium alcohol. Long, mineral finish. Lovely & unique expression of the grape and region.

A happy little drop of Pinot Noir, fermented in concrete eggs. Sticky-textured with cotton candy fruitiness and hints of peppery spice. The fine fizz makes this wine just slide across the palate and finish with a punch of perky vitality. Neat and tidy, even when it warmed up a bit. Wicked value, done oh so well.

The inspiration for this wine is easy. Chardonnay loves Margaret River, and Margaret River loves Chardonnay. In a glass the wine presents with a vibrant straw tinged yellow. Lifted intense varietal characteristics of stone fruit with a hint of lemon, and complimented by nutty characters. The palate expresses a flinty liveliness of stone fruit, with well-balanced natural acidity and complexity.

Medium ruby in the glass. Spicy tones at first sniff, but with a bit of air, this opens up beautifully to fruit notes of plum, blackcurrant, blueberry and hints of hibiscus tea. Medium-bodied with high acid and slightly unripe tannins. Juicy fruits. So balanced. Long finish. Everything you want in a Cab Franc, which is often not seen on the Aussie market.

Pale lemon-green in the glass. Vibrant and fun on the palate, offering great acidity and 4-5 g/L of residual sugar, just right. Citrus domination with a bit of green apple and melon. Bit of petrol due to bottle aging. Medium finish. An everyday Riesling with a very clean fruit character and good balance. Great for drinking with fish or light cheeses.

The 2020 ‘Super Margs’ draws influence from the highly sought after and respected Super Tuscan wines of Italy, which are made from non-indigenous varieties. The ripe fruit of the Cabernet Sauvignon provides richness and flavour, while the Sangiovese provides youthfulness, aromatics and overall acid to the blend. This wine is a little heavier than a medium bodied wine and shows off some great fruit and well-integrated tannins.

This is a rare expression of Margaret River Nebbiolo due to the relative scarcity of the variety within the region and our aim was to showcase the high-toned brightness and vibrancy of fruit whilst still integrating complexity and interest through structure and developed tannins to create an earlier, approachable Nebbiolo thoughtfully balanced with sweetness, savouriness and ultimately freshness.

Beach Day Out

Amato Vino Rosso 2020

$45.00

A lovely blend of Chenin Blanc and Verdelho. Aromatic, crunchy, super refreshing. A wine to drink straight from the bottle on the beach, no glasses needed.

New
$54.00

Hand-picked fruit barrel fermented. This wine has an intriguing nose with restrained complexity that will develop beautifully in time. A gun flint, stone fruit and popcorn aroma. A wine that shows fresh acidity with a well weighted palate exhibiting extraordinary texture and poise. Stone fruit, grapefruit and lemon fruit flavour with a pithy finish that lingers on the finish. Terrific wine that will age for 3-5 years.

$64.00

Really good Chardonnay, even when drunk slightly warm (happens sometimes, we have to admit it). Some solid complexity coming through with ripe tropical & stone fruit followed by barrel fermented tones of brioche, vanilla and butter. Zippy acidity highlighting the fruit, preventing it from being overripe & heavy. Big alcohol as well, but balanced. Long finish.

Decant for a few hours, drink slightly chilled. Lovely nose of violets, rhubarb, crushed strawberries, blackcurrant and some oriental spice. The palate is rich, but not overextracted, making the acidity shine like a diamond. Just a brush of tannins to tighten things up. Lasts long into the night and makes one sad that they only bought a single bottle.

New
$57.00

Deep ruby in the glass. Blasting aromas of oriental spice mixed with red and dark berry fruit. We rarely find an aromatic profile like this, so hats off for the uniqueness. The body is medium, has a good balance of all its elements and is complemented by some really soft tannins. Juicy, ripe dark berries and fruitcake with a tangy acid spike. Finishes long with ethereal varietal flavour.

Pinot(esque) Noir

Bass Phillip Nebbiolo 2019

$118.00

Banger of a wine, approachable at any time of the day. Pours medium garnet in the glass. Aromas of hibiscus tea, cherries, tobacco, cigar ashes, some leather. Quite a complex nose even at this young age. Medium-bodied, high acidity and alcohol, rounded up by a brush of dusty tannins. Superb representation of Nebbiolo, you will for sure love it. Decant about 2 hours before drinking.

New
$154.00

Translucent cherry bright in the glass. At first it smells quite ripe, so ripe that you may think it's going to be too big on the palate. Luckily it mellows out a few minutes later and starts showing great depth and nuance. Has an enjoyable feel in the mouth with moderately high acid and dusty, soft tannins. Painfully smooth. So smooth that you will feel rather sad when it is all gone.
